Owen Wilson stars in Midnight in Paris.

The 2011 film Midnight in Paris, featuring Owen Wilson, tells the story of an engaged couple that travels to Paris to tour the city and plan for their marriage. However, the soon-to-be husband and currently struggling writer discovers a car that takes him back in time to 1920’s Paris and only comes around at midnight. He takes the trip and meets his idols: Picasso, Hemingway, Dali, Fitzgerald, and Stein, all of whom help him improve his work and uneasiness regarding his upcoming marriage.

What sounds like a very sappy chick-flick proves itself an extremely interesting and intriguing film for all kinds of audiences. The movie touches on questions that all men have at some point, like if their path in life is the best one available.

Wilson, while sometimes reverting to his tell-tale dopey confused character role, does a great job in remaining the “good guy” protagonist throughout the film. Sometimes I questioned the casting choice with him, but when viewing the film as a whole I think he was the right choice.

Midnight in Paris is a great film for all types of audiences, and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes historical pieces and those who enjoy art history.
