Playful humor, macabre, nostalgia, and sadness all come together to form this film by Brent Bonacorsco, and results in one of the best short films I’ve come across in a long time. “West of the Moon” animates a narrated story from a man who has quite the imagination. The film’s animation has touches of Tim Burton, but is in Bonacorsco’s own style and unique feel. The colors are as compelling as the story, and there is a lot to love about this film.

When I watched this film for the first time, I felt as though we were hearing a story from “the most interesting man in the world” guy, or his brother. There’s that same kind of tall tale feel to it, and to see it animated brings it to life that much more. This film is a great way to spend the next 10 minutes.
