For a man, getting a new wallet is something that requires its own amount of pomp and circumstance. Most guys get a leather wallet and use it for a decade, leaving guys with a perfectly smooth, aged, and shaped wallet that is perfectly theirs. This is why wallets usually make terrible gifts, unless you have specific knowledge otherwise. That said, sometimes guys are in the market for a new wallet, and if you want something that is guaranteed to last more than a couple years and become that perfectly aged piece of leather art, you should look at the beautiful simplicity of H&B London.

H&B London is straight up unadulterated quality. According to them, they only use “the most exclusive Italian leather made from the hides of cattle grazed in the Alps where there are no barbed fences or mosquitos to blemish their skin.” I have no idea whether barbed fences and mosquito bites affect the quality of leather, but my hands and nose know great leather when I experience it. The leather H&B London uses is fantastically smooth and without imperfections; the smell is like an old classic tannery, and is worth the price alone.

H&B London lovingly wraps their wallets in paper inside a box. Opening the box wafts beautiful leather scents right in your face, and you know you’re about to unwrap something special.

These wallets are perfectly simple–no cheap plastic identification card holders, no zippers, no tricks. This is a classic pocketed wallet with plenty of space for your cards. The wallet is slightly larger than many standard American bi-fold wallets, so if you’re used to those (I am), it might feel a bit weird in your pocket. However, I value the slimness of this wallet more than the smaller width of the bi-fold style.

This wallet will run you $242, which–yes–is a lot of money for a wallet. However, I know for a fact that this wallet is going to last a lifetime. I’m going to follow-up down the road with this wallet and see how it holds up over time, but I’m confident that with this quality of leather and construction, it will only improve over time. If you can afford the high upfront cost, the payout over time with opening a superb wallet is going to be worth it.

My hat is off to H&B London, I don’t think it is possible to make a finer quality wallet. They also make some breast pocket wallets, which I’m sure are just as fine. If you want to treat yourself to a small slice of perfection, consider H&B London a useful outlet.
